Three original abstract oil paintings on stretched canvas with charcoal mixed media and real gold leaf. "Tarawera, Hinemihi, Po".

Inspired by the volcanic eruption of Mount Tarawera in 1886 in New Zealand these paintings are created using oil paints, tinted shellac, pigments, charcoal and real gold leaf. The first painting "Tarawera" is named after the volcano, "Hinemihi" is named after the wharenui (house) where many people sheltered during the eruption and survived including the artists's great great grandmother and "Po" is a Maori word for night as the sky was darkened by the ash and mud from the eruption.

The paintings are layered and textured and sealed with a semi gloss acrylic varnish.

All are painted on a stretched cotton canvas and are unframed. These paintings are part of the Contemporary Rituals series.
